  • BREAKING: PDP Governorship Candidate Sacked By Court

    The Federal High Court in Gusau, Zamfara, has nullified the governorship primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that produced Dauda Lawan-Dare as the party’s governorship candidate in the 2023 general elections in the state.

    Justice Aminu Bappa-Aliyu, during the sitting in Gusau on Friday, ordered that the party should immediately conduct fresh governorship primaries.

    The PDP governorship primaries held on May 25 and produced Dr Dauda Lawal-Dare, as the party’s governorship candidate for the state’s 2023 governorship election.

    Three aspirants, who are plaintiffs in the suit, Dr Ibrahim Shehu-Gusau, Wadat Madawaki and Hafiz Muhammad, sought the nullification of the primary election over alleged irregularities.

    The election was conducted by a committee sent from the PDP National Headquarters Abuja, led by Adamu Maina-Waziri.

    The defendants are the PDP, Maina-Waziri, retired Col. Bala Mande, Zamfara PDP Chairman; Lawal-Dare, the PDP governorship candidate, and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

    The presiding Judge, Mr Bappa-Aliyu said the court granted all the prayers of the plaintiffs.

    “The court has granted the prayers submitted in this honorable court by the plaintiffs and hereby ruled in their favour.”

    “The 109-page judgment will be presented to the counsel of both parties,” the judge said.

    Addressing journalists at the court premises, the counsel to the plaintiffs Ibrahim Aliyu, said the court nullified the election of Dauda Lawan Dare based on the prayers they submitted before the court.

    “We are happy today as the court has answered our prayers and cancelled the election of Dauda Lawan Dare as PDP candidate in Zamfara state.”

    “Part of our prayers: we urged the court to nullify the primary elections because of series of irregularities and we are happy that our prayers were granted.”

    Responding, the State Legal Adviser of the PDP, Bashir Masama who represented the defendants, said the PDP would study the judgment and take the necessary action.

    “Yes, the judgement was in the favour of plantiffs and all the defendants are going to study it and take next action,” Masama added.

  • Tambuwal Heads PDP Presidential Campaign Council AS DG
    •••As Party Releases 326-Member List

    After a seemingly endless wait, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday released the names of its Presidential Campaign Council.

    The Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, whose decision to step down from the party’s Presidential primaries led to the victory of Atiku Abubakar as the party’s flag bearer was rewarded with the position of director general.

    The Presidential Campaign Council has 326 members drawn from party members across the country.

    The PDP also appointed the Governor of Akwa-Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel as the Chairman of the Council, his Bauchi counterpart, Bala Mohammed, Vice Chairman (North) and governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde, Vice Chairman (South).

    Also appointed are the former Governor of Cross River State, Liyel Imoke (Deputy Director General Operations,) Prof. Adewale Oladipo appointed, (DDG administration), High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, DDG Technical and System) while Okwesilieze Nwodo got appointed as , DDG, Research and Strategy.

    The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, who has been been at the Centre of the party’s crisis got nominated as a member of the council.

    Similarly, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue, a top ally of Wike also made the list as a member of the council.

    The list include prominent party members including Board of Trustees members, National Working Committee (NWC), lawmakers from National Assembly, former governors and former lawmakers and a host of others stakeholders of the party.

  • BREAKING: Seven Policemen, Aides Killed as Gunmen Attack Ifeanyi Ubah’s Convoy

    Senator Escapes in Buller Proof Car

    Seven policemen and an aide have been killed at Enugwu-Ukwu community in Njikoka Local Government Area as gunmen attacked the convoy of Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah.

    Sen. Ubah who represents Anambra South Senatorial District in the Senate was said to have escaped death by the whiskers as was said to be riding in a bullet proof SUV utility vehicle during the attack.

    Sadly, his personal aide and seven policemen attached to his convoy were not lucky as they were killed in the attack.

    It was gathered that suspected assassins had rained bullets from all sides on the convoy of the Senator.

    Mr. Kameh Ogbonna, Media Assistant to Sen Ifeanyi Ubah who confirmed the ugly incident said, “If not for the bullet Proof Jeep the Senator was riding in, he would have been dead by now.

    “This is an attempt on the Senator Representing Anambra South Senatorial District, Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah.

    “We were passing Enugwu Ukwu junction when they hit us in front and back, from all sides and as I speak with you Obum the Special Aide to the senator is dead and about seven security operatives were hit by the assassins bullet and they may have died.

    Sources said the gunmen opened fire on the convoy, and police operatives in the convoyed responded, but about seven policemen were gunned down.

    A video of the attack showed the lifeless bodies of murdered policemen in about four of the vehicles in the convoy.

    It was indeed a distressing sight with people of the area wailing over the death of the security operatives and others.

    Iyke Orji, a social media user said, “Sen Ifeanyi Ubah was attacked today by hired killers in Enugwu Ukwu. It was a calculated attempt. It wasn’t an impromptu stuff.

    “Information was gathered about the time of movement and takeoff. The policemen were about four in numbers and they were attacked.

    “All their arms were collected.The boys that spearheaded that attack were about nine in numbers.”

    But another source who begged not to be named said six policemen were killed in the attack.

    It could not reach Sen. Ubah for confirmation as his line remained busy all through.

    The spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga confirmed that there was an attack on men of the command at Enugwu-Ukwu, but insisted that the casualty figure remained unknown.

    He said: “Yes, there was an attack at Enugwu-Ukwu today, but the casualty figure is not clear. As I speak to you, the CP has personally led a team of men to the scene, and normalcy has been restored.”

    He promised to brief journalists on the findings of the command.

  • BAYELSA THROWN INTO MOURNING AS CHAIRMAN STATE SANITATION AUTHORITY, TOLU AMATU DIES

    The Government and people People of Bayelsa State have been thrush into morning by the sudden death of the Chairman of the State Environmental Sanitation Authority, Hon Tolu Amatu.

    The late prominent political figure was also Chairman of the Ekeremor Local Government Area during the administration of Chief Henry Seriake Dickson.

    He was an aspirant for the Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency seat in the Federal House of Representatives under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

    A source close to the late politician told the Network that he complained of pains in the leg and took some medications on Friday.

     He was also said to have complained that he was having waist pain and not going to toilet on Saturday.

    It was stated that he later left the house to pay the salaries of his hotel staff, and sadly collapsed in his residence at Bay Bridge, Yenagoa.

    The source said that the agitated family members and friends rushed him to Crest Clinic, SAPTEX Road, Yenagoa where he was confirmed dead.

    “His death came as a shock to everybody. He complained of leg pains, and took medication.

    “Then yesterday he said he had waist pains and that he had not gone to toilet. He was told to take oranges and others which he did.

    “He was  then told to rest but he went to the hotel to pay his staff around 5pm.

    “When he returned he went upstairs. 

    “He collapsed in his house. Sadly, he died before getting to  Crest Clinic, SAPTEX Road, Yenagoa where he was rushed to.”

  • Breaking: Senator Walid Jibrin Resigns as PDP BoT chair

    Following the allegations and insistence by the southern wing of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), over perceived ‘northernisation’ of the party, the Chairman Board of Trusttees BoT, of the PDP, Senator Walid Jibrin, has resigned.

    Jibrin voluntarily stepped aside on Thursday, at the ongoing PDP BoT meeting in Abuja.

    According to him, the decision was to ensure that the PDP candidate, former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, wins the 2023 election.

    The Network gathered that the resignation was sequel to the demand of the southern leaders to reflect equity, fairness, justice and equality in the party’s hierarchy ahead of the 2023 general elections.

    It was gathered that his resignation was to woo the southern leaders to support the candidacy of the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

  • Breaking: Seven Critically Injured as 4-storey Building Collapses in Ibadan

    Soji Ajibola, Ibadan

    No fewer than seven persons have been reportedly injured at the collapse of an uncompleted 4-storey hotel building at the early hours of Thursday in Ibadan.

    The affected building was adjacent to one of the new generations bank at Awosika in Ibadan North local government area of Oyo state.

    A rescue team including people in the neighbourhood and passersby have been able to rescue seven people who are currently receiving medical attention at the University College Hospital, Ibadan

    An eyewitness account disclosed that the incident occured around 5:45pm when Muslim faithful were returning from early morning prayers.

    He disclosed that the numbers of injured persons have risen to seven while rescue team are battling hard to remove the debris in search for other survivors.

    Also a combine team of the State Fire Service, Federal Road Safety Commission and other security agencies have been deployed to the scene to minimize casualty rates

    As at the time of filing this report, there was no statement on whether the incident has claimed recorded ant casualty or not.

  • SIX TRAPPED AS SEVEN STOREY BUILDING COLLAPSES IN LAGOS 

    About six persons are feared trapped in the rubble of a seven storey  building under construction which collapsed on Saturday night at Oba Idowu Oniru Street, Victoria Island, Lagos

    The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident to the media.

    He confirmed that the building under construction collapsed with six people trapped under the rubble.

    Oke-Osanyintolu said in a situation report released to journalists that the incident occurred around 10:47 pm on Saturday night.

    He said that while no injury was recorded, the Lagos  State Response plan has been activated so that excavators can be deployed for the ongoing rescue operation. 

    “No injury sustained. However, about six people are reported to be trapped under the rubble of the collapsed structure.

    “The agency’s heavy duty equipment excavator will be required for the rescue of the trapped victims. We have activated Lagos State Response plan. The operation is ongoing. More updates to follow.”

    Also the Lagos Territorial Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency, Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the incident of the collapsed building on Sunday.

    He said that said six people are trapped in the collapsed building but responders are already on ground.

  • Breaking: TINUBU VISITS FORMER PRESIDENT JONATHAN IN ABUJA 

    The Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, has led a high power delegation from the party to visit former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja.

    Tinubu visited the former Governor with his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima.

    Others in the entourage of the APC flag bearer are  Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle, Governor Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa State, Plateau State Governor who is the Director-General of Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Organization, and Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq of Kwara State.

    The Network gathered that Tinubu and the top leaders of the APC got to the Maitama residence of the former President around 7:30 pm and left after spending about one hour and thirty minutes. 

    The source said, “It is true as you can see in the photograph. The APC Presidential Candidate visited the former President.

    “He came with about five Governors and they left after spending over 1:30 minutes.”

  • FORMER AMNESTY BOSS, PROF DOKUBO IS DEAD

    Former Chairman of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Professor Charles Quaker Dokubo is dead.

    Dokubo was in charge of the Presidential Amnesty Office from 

    March 2018 18 to February 2020 under the President Buhari administration.

    The Network gathered that Dikibo has been sick for two months and was being treated for an undisclosed ailment for two months.

    A source who worked closely with the former Amnesty boss said that he died on Wednesday evening in an Abuja hospital.

    The source could not confirm whether his immediate family has been informed or not.

    “It is true that he has passed on. He did in Abuja in the evening yesterday. I cannot say for sure whether his immediate family has been informed. You know they are in the UK. The source said 

    The late Amnesty boss was born in Abonnema, Akuku Toru Local government of Rivers state on the 23rd of March 1952. 

    He was a Research Professor at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs in Lagos.
