A wedding in Jigawa State has taken a tragic turn following allegations that the bride poisoned food served during the reception.
The incident has resulted in the death of one guest and left the groom in critical condition.
The tragedy occurred in the Jahun Local Government Area, where eyewitnesses reported that the bride may have acted out of a personal vendetta.
The bride’s alleged actions have shocked the community and led to a swift police response.
According to the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Shi’isu Adam, an investigation is currently underway while confirming that reports indicates the bride tampered with the food served at the reception, leading to the serious health condition of the groom.
“Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the food poisoning incident,” Adam stated
He identified them as the bride and another female accomplice saying they are currently in custody and are being interrogated by the Criminal Investigation Department.
Adam assured the public, stating, “We will do everything in our power to ensure that justice is served.”
The police further reported that all wedding guests who consumed the tainted food have since been discharged from the hospital, except for the individual who tragically succumbed to the effects.
“We are working tirelessly to uncover the circumstances surrounding this incident and will provide more details as soon as they become available,” Adam added,
He urged the public to remain calm and assured of justice.
As of now, authorities have not disclosed the identities of the deceased, the groom, or other victims involved in this alarming incident. The community remains in mourning as they await further information.
