Supporters of Osun State Governor and Accord Party governorship candidate, Ademola Adeleke, erupted in celebration on Saturday after he won his polling unit in the ongoing governorship election.
Results announced at Ward 02, Polling Unit 009, Abogunde Compound in Ede North Local Government Area showed that Adeleke secured 421 votes.
The declaration of the result sparked jubilation among his supporters, who gathered at the polling unit to celebrate the outcome.
Earlier in the day, Adeleke had expressed confidence in his chances of securing another term after casting his vote at Sagba Abogunde Ward 2, Unit 9, in Ede North Local Government Area.
Other leading contenders in the election also voiced optimism about their prospects as voting progressed into the sorting and collation stage.
The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Oyebamiji, expressed confidence in victory after voting at Ward 09, Unit 011, Ikire, in Irewole Local Government Area.
Meanwhile, the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Najeem Salaam, raised concerns over the alleged non-recognition of his party agents in some parts of the state.
As collation continued across Osun State, checks on the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Result Viewing Portal at about 5:24 p.m. showed that 1,386 of the 3,763 polling unit results had been uploaded.
The governorship election is ongoing, with results from polling units across the state still being collated.
