At least 30 people have died in a boat mishap that happened in the Malale area of Borgu Local Government of Niger State.
It was gathered that the ill-fated boat, l conveying over 90 passengers including women and children, had departed from Tugan Sule in Shagunu ward and was heading to Dugga for a condolence visit when tragedy struck.
The Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Abdullahi Baba Arah, confirmed this development on Wednesday.
He said the mishap was as a result of overloading and a collision with a tree stump.
Arah disclosed that as at this time of today, 30 dead bodies have been recovered, with 50 persons rescued, while two people are still missing.
According to search and rescue operations are ongoing for possible recovery of missing persons while the deceased victims.
