President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condemned the killing of Arise TV News anchor, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, during a robbery operation in her residence in the Katampe area of Abuja on Monday.
The President has also directed security agencies to track down and arrest the killers of the journalist.
He condoled with the Maduagwu family, the management and staff of Arise News Television, and the entire Nigerian media community on the painful loss.
This was contained in a statement m by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Tuesday.
The statement titled ‘President Tinubu condemns the killing of Arise News anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu, urges security agencies to fish out the killers and make them to face justice.
The statement reads, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has received with deep sorrow the news of the brutal killing of Ms Somtochukwu “Sommie❞ Maduagwu, a talented news anchor with Arise News Television, who was murdered during a robbery attack at her residence in Katampe, Abuja.
“The President extends his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the management and staff of Arise News Television, and the broader media community over this painful and shocking loss.
“Describing Ms Maduagwu as a “promising journalist whose life was cut short in a cruel and condemnable manner,” President Tinubu directed security and law enforcement agencies to carry out a swift and thorough investigation into the incident and ensure the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice without delay.
“The President assured Nigerians that his administration remains fully committed to safeguarding the lives and property of all citizens.
“He reiterated that under the Renewed Hope Agenda, the government will continue strengthening security measures nationwide to combat crime in all its forms and ensure that tragedies of this nature are not repeated .”
