A newly admitted student of the Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi, (Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University Markudi (JOSTUM), Benue State, Felix Sughter Nyikyaa has drowned in the River Niger.

It was gathered that Felix went missing on Sunday, February 9, 2025 at about 9: am.
He was supposed to be among the students that matriculated on Monday 10th February 2025 before the ugly incident.
It was further learnt that after intensive searches by rescuers, the student’s body was found floating by the river bank on Tuesday evening of February 11, 2025.
The national president of National Union of Benue State Students(NUBESS), comrade Ashar Lubem, also confirmed the development.
According to him, the incident happened on Sunday, and rescuers have been searching for him.
“Unfortunately, his body was found on Tuesday.
“However, we are still studying the circumstances to establish on whether it was a case of drowning or he was killed because his body was seen floating by the river bank.
“Also, we are yet to ascertain the circumstances that led to his drowning.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of the student, and we mourn the loss of a young and promising life.
“The student’s passing is a tragic reminder of the fragility of life, and we are reminded to cherish every moment we have with our loved ones.
“We also urge all students to be mindful of their well-being and to seek help if they are struggling with their emotions or if they need support.”
