A Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin presided over by Justice Haleemah Salman has sentenced five people standing trial over the deadly 2018 bank robbery in Offa to death by hanging.
On April 5, 2018, robbers invaded several banks in Offa and murdered 32 persons.
Those that were mowed down by the rampaging criminals included nine policemen on official duty.
However, the long arm of the law has caught up with the robbers as the court convicted five of the robbers and sentenced them to death by hanging.
Those convicted and sentenced to death are Ayoade Akinnibosun, Azeez Salahudeen, Niyi Ogundiran, Ibikunle Ogunleye and Adeola Abraham.
It would be recalled that the robbers carried out multiple raids in all the banks in Offa except two in a most daring manner and carted away millions of Naira.
They attacked the Divisional Police headquarters, killed the police officers on duty and looted the armory as a starting point of their operation.
They escaped from the town through through the Igosun/Ila Orangun route.
