A boat mishap has left no fewer than 25 persons dead, including a family of ten, in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
It was learnt that the victims were going to Zumba weekly market on Saturday when the incident occured around 2 pm.
Dr. Ibraihim Audu Hussaini, the Director, Information and Special Duties, Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA),
confirmed the incident.
He said the agency had yet to get full details of the casualties.
Meanwhile, Umar Isah, the Sarkin Ruwa Zumba, also confirming the incident, said the boat hit a tree and capsized as the victims were traveling from Guni in Munya LGA to Zumba weekly market in Shiroro LGA.
According to him, a family lost ten members while the whereabouts of five members of another family is syil unknown.
“The driver did not also know the number of passengers in his boat. Many of the passengers traveling from Guni to Zumba market were yet to be accounted for,” Isah stated.
