Tragedy struck in the Federal Capital Territory on Saturday morning as a three-storey building under construction collapsed in the Durumi 3 Area near Gudu Market, leaving at least five people feared dead and 10 others rescued alive.
The incident occurred around Gaduwa Estate in the Gudu district.
Emergency responders quickly mobilized, with rescue operations continuing into the afternoon as more victims were believed to be trapped beneath the rubble.
Officials confirmed that teams from the Federal Fire Service, health workers, security agencies, and local volunteers were working tirelessly to evacuate survivors and recover bodies.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as families and onlookers gathered anxiously, hoping for news of loved ones.
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Mandate Secretary of the Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, visited the site.
Fasawe announced that FCT Minister Nyesom Wike had directed that all casualties receive free medical treatment.
The directive was aimed at ensuring immediate care for survivors without financial burden.
Fasawe commended the swift response of emergency teams and assured residents that the government was committed to supporting victims and preventing future tragedies.
As of Saturday afternoon, rescue operations were still underway, with heavy equipment deployed to clear debris.
Authorities warned that the casualty figures could rise as more victims might be trapped.
Survivors were rushed to nearby hospitals, where medical teams were placed on high alert.
