The Catholic Church has revealed the identity of the newly elected Pope.
He is Robert Francis Prevost, an American Catholic prelate.
He will be known as Pope Leo.
he hold the record as the first American to be elected Pope.
He has been head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State since 8 May 2025.
He was also the prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops and president of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America since 2023.
He was welcomed by a huge cheers from thousands gathered in St Peter’s Square.
He responded with his first utterance from the Vatican balcony, saying
“May peace be with all of you.”
