A 100-level female student of Plateau State University, Bokkos, Plateau State, who was kidnapped by gunmen in the university community, has regained her freedom and is receiving medical attention at a hospital.

The student was kidnapped on Saturday night at an off-campus residential area in Bokkos Local Government Area, while another person sustained gunshot injuries during the attack.

The Acting Public Relations Officer of the university, Masara Kim, confirmed her release to journalists in Jos on Tuesday.

According to Kim, the victim was abandoned by her abductors following a security operation.

He explained that the university, working with a joint security team, launched an operation to rescue the student after receiving information about her abduction.

He also said, the abductors fled after sighting the advancing security team, leaving the victim behind.

“She was abandoned by her captors after the university, in collaboration with a joint security team, launched an operation that forced them to flee on sighting the advancing team,” he said.

The university spokesperson said the rescued student had been taken to a hospital for medical examination and was currently receiving treatment.

He did not disclose further details about her condition or the circumstances surrounding her recovery.

Kim added that the institution was collaborating with security agencies to strengthen security and protect students and staff within the university and neighbouring communities.

He also commended the security personnel for their prompt response to the incident, which led to the student’s recovery.

Meanwhile, the Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, Alabo Alfred, had yet to respond to inquiries from journalists about the incident as of the time of filing this report.

The attack raises fresh concerns about the safety of students living in off-campus accommodation around the university community.
