The Adamawa State Police Command has commenced a statewide enforcement operation targeting vehicles operating without registration number plates or using concealed, altered, or defaced registration details.
The initiative, according to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, is in compliance with a directive from the Inspector-General of Police aimed at strengthening public safety and preventing the use of unidentified vehicles in criminal activities.
To drive the exercise, the Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, has constituted a special task force headed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Abubakar Haruna.
The task force has been mandated to monitor compliance and enforce relevant traffic and vehicle registration laws across the state.
The police expressed concern over the increasing number of vehicles operating without proper identification, noting that such vehicles are frequently exploited by criminals to evade detection and facilitate unlawful activities.
Under the operation, security personnel have been authorised to stop and inspect vehicles suspected of violating registration regulations.
Vehicles found operating without valid number plates or with tampered registration details may be impounded, while their owners could face prosecution in accordance with existing laws.
The Command urged motorists to regularise their vehicle documentation and comply with all registration requirements to avoid sanctions.
It further warned that the enforcement exercise would be conducted without exception, stressing that adherence to vehicle registration regulations remains critical to enhancing security and effective law enforcement in the state.
The police also appealed to residents to cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious vehicles and activities capable of threatening public peace and safety.
