Anambra APC Guber Primary: Ukachukwu, others clash amid delegate list uncertainty

By Kamsi Anayo, Awka

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State is embroiled in controversy as the party’s primary elections are marred by disputes over parallel delegate lists.

The situation appears to show no signs of resolution, as allegations surrounding the emergence of three conflicting delegate lists for this Saturday’s gubernatorial primaries continue to deepen the crisis within the party.

According to information available to our correspondent, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu and Prof. Obiora Okonkwo have been locked in a battle over the issue of the authentic delegate list since Friday.

Our correspondent gathered that the only list initially circulating for the primary election appeared to favor Ukachukwu.

However, by Friday evening and into this Saturday morning, a new list allegedly surfaced, seemingly supporting Okonkwo.

At the same time, another list has emerged reportedly backing Chief John Bosco Onunkwo. This development has only added to the turmoil within the party.

It is worth noting that one of the leading aspirants, Sir Paul Chukwuma, resigned from the party on Friday, citing the alleged manipulation of the delegate list.

Similarly, Hon. Chuma Umeoji pulled out of the race, accusing the party of doctoring the delegate list. Meanwhile, former Labour Party aspirant Mr Valentine Ozigbo, who is now in the APC, has remained silent and is difficult to reach, although he is still in the contest.

The confusion is further compounded by the absence of members of the Bassey Otu-led Primary Election Committee, who have not been seen or made any public statements regarding the parallel lists.

The state Chairman of the party, Chief Basil Ejidike, could not be reached for comments.

Despite this, three different venues in Awka are still buzzing with activity as delegates remain uncertain whether their names appear on the list.

At the primary election venue, the Dora Akunyili Women Development Center, heavy security has been deployed, while party members loiter around the entrance gate, awaiting clarification.
