Anambra CP Orders Probe Into Disappearance of Armed Robbery Suspect

Fidelia Soriwei, Abuja

The Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Ama, has ordered an investigation into the disappearance of an armed robbery suspect who was allegedly arrested and taken to the 3-3 Police Station in Anambra State.

Ama directed that queries be issued to the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the station and a Deputy Superintendent of Police, while disciplinary proceedings are to begin against an Inspector involved in the matter.

The directive followed a viral video alleging that the suspect could no longer be accounted for after being brought to the station.

The police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said in a statement on Tuesday that Ama personally interviewed the complainant and officers connected to the incident before issuing the directives on October 5, 2026.

“The CP described the allegation as serious and capable of undermining public confidence in the Police. He stressed that the Command would not condone any act of unprofessional conduct, dereliction of duty, abuse of office or compromise of established procedures by any police officer.”

Ama has also directed the command’s X-Squad to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the suspect’s arrest, detention and documentation, as well as how and when the suspect became unaccounted for.

The investigation will also establish the roles and responsibilities of all officers connected to the case.

“The Commissioner has consequently directed the X-Squad of the Command to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the arrest, detention, documentation and subsequent whereabouts of the suspect, including the actions and responsibilities of officers involved.”

The commissioner said operational measures had been activated to assist efforts to locate and arrest the suspect.

Police also assured the public that the outcome of the investigation would be made known once the facts had been established.

Ama cautioned members of the public against sharing unverified information that could interfere with the investigation, stressing that the circumstances of the case must be determined through due process.

“He reiterated that accountability remains a core component of the Command’s leadership philosophy, and that no police officer is above scrutiny or the established disciplinary process,” Ikenga said.
