The All Progressives Congress (APC) has demanded the cancellation of the Shanono/Bagwai State Constituency by-election and the Ghari Constituency rerun in Kano State, citing widespread violence and disruption by armed thugs.
According to the party, over 200 suspected thugs were arrested across the state during the polls, which were marred by voter intimidation and breakdown of security at several polling units.
In a statement issued on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC alleged that credible reports from Shanono, Bagwai, and Ghari showed that voters fled polling stations as security agencies struggled to contain the violence.
“The APC calls on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately cancel the by-elections for Shanono/Bagwai constituency and the Ghari constituency rerun election in Kano State due to widespread extreme violence and election disruption by armed thugs across several polling units,” the statement read.
The ruling party warned that continuing with the process under what it described as “utter brigandage and outright violent voter intimidation” would undermine the credibility of the exercise and set a dangerous precedent for future elections.
