The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has affirmed the designation of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, as a terrorist organization.
The appellate court affirmed the order of Justice Abdul Kafarati of the Federal High Court which proscribed the separatist body and designated it as a terrorist organization in September, 2017.
The Court of Appeal in a unanimous decision ruled that the order to proscribe the group was lawful as its activities threatened the nation’s existence.
The court held there was no reason whatsoever to set aside the order the federal government secured against IPOB.
Justice Hamma Barka who delivered the verdict dismiss the appeal for lacking in merit
IPOB is in the forefront of the campaign for the creation of the Independent State of Biafra out of the South-East and some parts of South-South geopolitical zone.
