The Nigerian Army has destroyed Lakurawa terrorist camps in Waria Forest, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, following a military operation that left several terrorists dead and led to the recovery of weapons and five motorcycles.
The operation was conducted on October 15, 2026, by troops of Sector 2 under Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist strongholds and improve security in north-western Nigeria.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the task force’s Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the troops advanced through identified terrorist enclaves around Alela, Bilange and Kandam villages before moving towards Waria Forest, where they encountered the armed group.
“During the ensuing firefight, the troops overwhelmed the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee deeper into the forest.
“The troops subsequently pursued the fleeing terrorists, neutralising some of them, while further exploitation of the area led to the destruction of the camps and associated support structures,” the statement added.
The clearance operation also resulted in the recovery of weapons and five motorcycles believed to have been left behind by the fleeing terrorists. The destruction of the camps and associated facilities is expected to disrupt the group’s operational activities in the area.
The Theatre Command said troops had maintained a strong presence in the affected area and would continue clearance operations to restrict the movement of armed groups and improve security in neighbouring communities.
It added that the operation reflected Operation FANSAN YAMMA’s commitment to dismantling terrorist enclaves, denying armed groups safe havens and restoring peace across its operational area.
The command commended the troops for their courage, resilience and sustained efforts, while urging residents to support security operations by providing timely and credible information about suspicious movements and activities in their communities.
