Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued five abducted persons, including a mother and her infant, during a security operation in Katsina State.
The Nigerian Army disclosed the development in a post on its official X handle on Thursday, stating that the rescue followed intelligence on the movement of suspected terrorists around Madaci Forest in Sabuwa Local Government Area.
According to the military, troops swiftly mobilised to intercept the suspects, leading to a successful operation that secured the freedom of the victims.
The Army said the intervention created confusion among the abductors and enabled troops to rescue the captives without delay.
“The operation caused confusion in the enemy camp,” the military stated.
The rescued victims included a mother and her baby, as well as three other minors and young adults from Danja and Funtua Local Government Areas of Katsina State.
Following the operation, the victims were handed over to the Chairman of Bakori Local Government Area, Abubakar Musa, for reunification with their families.
The military described the rescue as part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, protect vulnerable communities and secure lives across the North-West region.
In a related development, troops of the 248 Reconnaissance Battalion foiled an attack by suspected terrorists in Badiya Village, Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Acting on intelligence about suspicious movements, the troops engaged the attackers in a gun battle and forced them to flee the area.
According to the military, the fleeing suspects abandoned a large number of rustled livestock during the encounter.
The recovered animals were later returned to their owners during a ceremony facilitated by the Chairman of Shagari Local Government Area and the district head of the community.
The Army said troops would continue aggressive patrols and other security operations aimed at restricting the movement of criminal elements and restoring normalcy in affected communities across the region.
