The Executive Secretary of the Bauchi State Health Contributory Management Agency, Ibrahim Duguri, and four of his children have died in a road accident in Bauchi State, leaving the family and the state government in mourning.
The crash occurred on Saturday at Yalwan Duguri in Alkaleri Local Government Area. The children who died were identified as Hajara, Usman, Rukayya and Maryam, while another son, Suleiman, survived the accident.
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, expressed grief over the deaths, describing the incident as a devastating loss to the family and the state, particularly its health sector.
The governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, announced the development in a statement, saying Mohammed extended condolences on behalf of his family, the state government and the people of Bauchi State.
“The death of Ibrahim Duguri represents a monumental loss to Bauchi State, particularly the health sector, where he distinguished himself through dedication, commitment, and an unwavering passion for improving access to healthcare services for the people,” the statement quoted the governor as saying.
Mohammed said Duguri played an important role in strengthening the state’s health contributory management system and improving access to healthcare, particularly for less privileged residents.
The governor also acknowledged Duguri’s contributions to medical teams supporting pilgrimage exercises in Saudi Arabia, where he helped attend to the health and welfare of pilgrims.
Describing the deceased as a close friend and former classmate, Mohammed said the loss was deeply personal, in addition to depriving Bauchi State of a dedicated public servant.
“His death, therefore, represents not only the loss of a valued public servant but also the painful departure of a beloved family member and trusted companion whose life was marked by service, loyalty, and dedication to humanity,” he said.
The governor expressed particular sorrow over the deaths of Duguri’s four children, noting the devastating impact of losing several members of one family in a single accident.
“The loss of four young members of the same family in one tragic incident makes this tragedy even more heartbreaking. No words can adequately express the pain and anguish of the bereaved family at this difficult moment,” Mohammed said.
He prayed for Allah to forgive the deceased, accept their good deeds and grant Duguri and his children eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus. He also prayed for Suleiman and other surviving family members to receive the strength to cope with the loss.
Mohammed urged residents to remember the bereaved family in their prayers and offer them support during the mourning period.
According to the statement, funeral prayers for Duguri and his four children were scheduled to take place at the palace of the District Head of Yalwan Duguri on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at 11 a.m.
