The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested Emmanuel Odiniya, father of Big Brother Naija Season 8 winner, Ilebaye Odiniya, following an alleged assault incident at the family residence in Abuja.

The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Saturday at Royal Anchor Estate, Wuye. The police received a distress call alleging that the reality television star was being physically assaulted by her father.

According to a statement issued by the spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, officers attached to the Wuye Division, alongside operatives from the Department of Operations, were immediately deployed to the scene after the report was received around midnight on May 9, 2026.

Adeh stated that police officers initially encountered difficulties accessing the residence because the gate to the compound had been locked.

“After several attempts, access was gained into the compound at about 2:30 a.m. Ms Ilebaye Odiniya, who was found with visible bruises, was rescued alongside her brothers and rushed to NNPC Hospital, Abuja, where she received medical attention,” the statement said.

Following the report, a patrol team from Wuye Division, supported by operatives of the Department of Operations, FCT Police Command, was immediately deployed to the scene. The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer was also present to monitor the operation.

The police spokesperson added that Emmanuel Odiniya was subsequently taken into custody while investigations into the incident continue.

“Hon. Emmanuel Odiniya is currently in police custody, while a thorough investigation is ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident,” the statement added.

Before the police intervention, concern had spread across social media after Ilebaye appeared in an emotional live video showing signs of distress.

In the video, the BBNaija winner was seen crying and repeatedly calling for help while displaying visible swelling on her face.

The footage, which circulated widely online, triggered reactions from fans and supporters who expressed concern over her safety and wellbeing.

Authorities have yet to disclose further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault as investigations remain ongoing.
