From Attah Ede, Makurdi

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State, on Friday, said he is determined and focused to pay the N70,000 as new minimum wage to the State civil servants.

The Federal Government and organized labour had on Thursday, agreed on N70,000 as new minimum wage in the country.

Speaking  to newsmen shortly after Inaugurating members of governing council and board of state tertiary institutions at government house Makurdi,  Governor Alia said his administration has blocked all the leakages and had put measures in place to make things work in the State.

He noted that despite the harsh economy which  has made things to be stagnated,  with all the plans and measures that he has put in place for things to function, his administration will generate  revenue internally to augment Federation allocations to the State.

“It’s now left for us to close all loopholes to see how much we can cash in to do other things even to pay salary.

“We can pay the new minimum wage going  by  the focus and determination of this administration, with all our intent and purpose, we are  ready to pay what is agreed by the Federal Government and labour.

” We the sub nationals should be able to queue in today. Without the workforce, any government will not have any centeredness of governance.

“So, we need to pay our civil servants with what is approved by the Federal Government and organised labour so that we can achieve right result from the civil servants who are the engine room of any government”, Alia assured.
