The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria has elected oil industry veteran, Bosun Olabiyi-Agoro, as its new National President.
Olabiyi-Agoro emerged unopposed during the union’s first Quadrennial Delegates Conference held in Abuja on Saturday, succeeding Festus Osifo, who also serves as President of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria.
A petroleum engineer and labour leader, Olabiyi-Agoro brings more than two decades of experience in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector to the leadership of the association.
He currently works with the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission and previously held technical and operational roles with Baker Hughes and EA Temile and Sons.
The new PENGASSAN president holds a Master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom, a Postgraduate Certificate in Computing from London Metropolitan University, and a Bachelor of Technology degree in Chemical Engineering from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso.
He has also built a strong record in trade union leadership, currently serving as Chairman of the Trade Union Congress, Oyo State Council.
Within PENGASSAN, Olabiyi-Agoro previously served as National Financial Secretary between 2022 and 2023, National Auditor from 2020 to 2022, and Chairman of the Baker Hughes PENGASSAN Branch from 2016 to 2020.
Over the years, he has participated in several local and international programmes focused on leadership, industrial relations and negotiation.
He is widely recognised within labour circles for his commitment to workers’ welfare and his contributions to trade union development in the oil and gas industry.
His election marks the beginning of a new leadership phase for PENGASSAN as the association seeks to advance the interests of senior staff in Nigeria’s petroleum sector.
In his acceptance speech, Olabiyi-Agoro pledged to prioritise workers’ welfare and sustain the achievements recorded under the leadership of his predecessor, Osifo.
