•••Suspect Remanded in Prison

Dele Farotimi, a Human rights lawyer and activist, was on Wednesday arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti, and remanded in prison custody.
The presiding Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun who remanded Farotimi adjourned hearing till December 10.
Police prosecutor, Samson Osun pleaded with the court to remand the suspect in prison custody as in view of the ongoing investigation for the maintenance of security in the country.

The lawyer argued that the case is
bailable in addition to the fact that the suspect a prominent known figure does constitute any threat to public peace and security.
Farotimi who was arrested in Lagos on Tuesday by operatives of the Ekiti state police command was brought to the court at about 10:25am Wednesday.
At the ongoing court sitting, the activist lawyer is being prosecuted on a 16-court charge of defamation of character against a legal luminary and founder of Afe Babalola University, Aare Afe Babalola SAN.
He was accused of having malign and defame the character of Afe Babalola in his recently published book titled, ‘Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System.
