A fire broke out on Saturday at the headquarters of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria in Abuja, affecting parts of the building and prompting an emergency response from firefighters.
The incident occurred at the bank’s headquarters located opposite the Central Bank of Nigeria headquarters in the Federal Capital Territory.
According to reports, the blaze started on the fourth floor before spreading to the upper section of the building.
Eyewitnesses shared images of thick smoke rising from the structure as fire service personnel battled to contain the flames.
A Facebook user, Praises Chukwu, who posted photos from the scene, wrote: “Mortgage Bank of Abuja, opposite CBN, currently on fire. The fire service team are putting up their best to take it out, but the fire seems to be spreading across the top floor of the building.”
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire had not been established.
There was also no immediate information on casualties or the extent of damage caused by the incident.
Authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the fire.
