The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has passed away at the age of 90.
The revered monarch died in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025—exactly one year after ascending the throne as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Oba Olakulehin received his staff of office from Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on July 12, 2024.
Though official details surrounding his death remain sketchy as of the time of filing this report, palace sources confirmed that the monarch had been managing age-related health challenges in recent months.
Oba Olakulehin’s transition marks the end of a brief but significant reign as the traditional head of one of Nigeria’s most prominent Yoruba kingdoms.
Further announcements regarding funeral arrangements and succession processes are expected from the Olubadan-in-Council in due course.
