Breaking: Soludo Re-elected Anambra governor in landslide victory

•••Soludo thanks Anambra People for Reelection

By Kamsi Anayo, Awka

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has been re-elected governor of Anambra state.

The incumbent recorded a landside victory in the election, held on Saturday across the state.

He defeated the opponents in the race in all 21 local government areas (LGAs) of the state.

He thanked thank the people of the state and congratulated them. He said the people spoke loudly, with 71 percent of the votes given to him.

The INEC final results from 5,718 polling units across Anambra state was announced in early hours of Sunday by the State Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof Edoba Omoregie at the collation centre in Awka, the state capital.

Omoregie declared that Soludo satisfied the electoral requirements, having scored 71 percent in the 21 local government areas of the state.

The governor polled 422,664 votes and Nicholas Ukachukwu trailed him in second place, with 99,445 votes.

George Moghalu of the Labour Party (LP) placed third with 10,576 votes, while Jude Ezenwafor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured 1401 votes to come in at a distant fourth.

The off-cycle election recorded some logistical issues, resulting in the delayed arrival of INEC officials and security operatives in several polling units.

There were also voter apathy and widespread incidents of vote buying recorded across the state.

Journalists and observers deployed to the field monitored many instances of vote trading and transactional arrangements at the polling units.

In their respective conversations with the press after voting, Soludo, Moghalu and others confirmed receiving reports of vote buying,  accusing other parties of perpetrating the act.

The governorship election recorded a low voter turnout, while INEC ad hoc officials reported several cases of BVAS glitches.

Out of over 2.8 million registered votes, 598,229 were accredited to vote. The total votes cast amounted to 595,298, while the total valid votes were 584,054

The results of the elections in all the local government areas are presented thus:
