Veteran Nollywood actor and film executive, Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, has died at the age of 84.
His demise occurred on early hours of
Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
The late Veteran actor’s son, Olusoji Jacobs, confirmed the incidence in a post he shared on Instagram on Wednesday.
He described his late father as a beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle while announcing that the family was mourning his death.
The family also appealed to members of the public, particularly bloggers and social media influencers, to give them privacy as they come to terms with the loss.
The statement reads: “It is with gratitude to God for a life well lived and fought, that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and uncle. The Lion of Lufodo.
“Oludotun Baiyewun Jacobs (MFR) 11/07/1942-16/09/2026. We call on all bloggers and social media influencers to respect our families privacy at this time.”
The announcement brings to an end the life of one of Nigeria’s most recognised actors, whose career covered several decades and crossed theatre, television and film.
Olu Jacobs was born on July 11, 1942.
He developed an interest in acting at a young age and later travelled to the United Kingdom, where he trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.
His professional career took him beyond Nigeria, with appearances in British television productions, stage performances and international films.
He eventually returned to Nigeria and became one of the familiar faces of the country’s growing film industry.
Jacobs featured in several Nigerian productions and became known for his ability to take on demanding roles, particularly characters that required authority, depth and strong command of dialogue.
His career also extended beyond acting. Together with his wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, he was involved in the Lufodo Group and the development of the Lufodo Academy of Performing Arts.
The institution became part of the couple’s efforts to contribute to theatre, film and the training of young talents.
