Yobe state governor, Hai Mala Buni, has imposed a 24-hour curfew in the state owing to some pockets of destructions by the protesters.
He said the protesters have already caused mayhem in Potiskum Local Government Secretariat complex and six buses destroyed.
Announcing the curfew earlier today, the Special Adviser to the Governor on security matters, Brig-Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam (rtd) said “Today’s curfew is imposed by Governor Buni owing to the violence that affected towns of Potiskum, Gashua and Nguru, a border community with Niger Republic”
He said the hoodlums took advantage of the peaceful protest to destroy public and private properties worth billions of naira.
Abdulsalam therefore, urged members of the public in the affected towns to abide by the imposed curfew adding that the security agencies were also directed to enforce the curfew ordered by the Governor.
The Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, had earlier declared a 24-hour curfew in the state after the protest against economic hardship in the state turned violent.
This was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa, on Thursday.
