The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, had expressed the desire that the Finnish Government extradite the self acclaimed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Simon Ekpa, to Nigeria to face justice.
The CDS was reacting to the arrest and detention of Ekpa and four others for terrorism related offenses by the Finnish Police on Thursday.
The Director, Defence Media Operations, Brig-Gen. Tukur Gusau, who conveyed the CDS position in a statement said the nation’s number one military personnel is happy over Ekpa’s arrest.
According to him, the CDS is optimistic that Ekpa would be extradited to Nigeria to face the law,
Musa described Ekpa’s arrest as a possible step towards his extradition.
“The CDS is happy with his arrest in Finland, with the hope that this will be a step towards his extradition to Nigeria so that he will face justice.” The statement read.
The BBC also reported that the authorities also picked up four other persons for terrorism related offences.
It was reported that Finnish National Bureau of Investigation arrested Ekpe and the rest.
Ekpa the other four were said to have committed the crime in 2021 in Lahti municipality.
According to BBC, Ekpa was sent to prison by the district court of Päijät-Häme for “spreading terrorist propaganda on social media.”
The Finnish National Bureau of Investigation is investigating Ekpa for alleged coordination violent actions against civilians and authorities in Nigeria’s South-East region from Finland via social media platforms.
