Count me out of Wike, Others’ Expulsion- Plateau gov

By Attah Ede

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has said that he is not party to the expulsion of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose; and several other party leaders from the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party’ by some leaders.

He said that the decision to expel them was not initially discussed and does not form part of the schedule for the convention.

In a statement issued on Saturday by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, the governor clarified that the issue was never discussed by the PDP Governors’ Forum or the National Executive Committee before the motion for expulsion was presented.

He stressed that the proposal does not reflect his position.

“The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has formally distanced himself from the expulsion of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Governor of Rivers State, Barr. Nyesom Wike, former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, alongside other leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“The matter was neither deliberated upon by the Governors’ Forum nor the NEC before being brought to the convention floor.  The expulsion of key party stakeholders at such a critical time was not a strategic solution to the party’s internal challenges”, the statement said.

The governor insisted that there must be unity, dialogue, and collective effort in rebuilding and repositioning the PDP for the future.

The PDP, at its just  concluded 2025 National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Saturday, expelled several high-ranking members, including Wike; Senator Samuel Anyanwu; former National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN); former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose; Imo PDP Chairman, Austin Nwachukwu; and others for alleged anti-party activities.

The motion for their expulsion was moved by former PDP Deputy National Chairman (South), Bode George, and seconded by the Bauchi State PDP Chairman, Samaila Buga.

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, who also chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, subsequently put the motion to a voice vote, which was overwhelmingly endorsed by delegates.
