A Kuje Magistrate Court has granted bail to Alex Ikwechegh, the House of Representatives member for Aba North and South, on Wednesday.
When the lawmaker was docked, he pleaded not guilty to a First Information Report made against him the Nigerian Police Force
before the court.
The lawmaker who has been at the receiving end of mounting public condemnation for attacking the bolt driver, faces charges bordering on abuse of office, assault, and threat to life.
The Prosecution counsel, Mr A Umar pleaded for full hearing of the case following the defendant’s plea of innocence.
The presiding magistrate granted Ikwechegh’s request for bail after he made an oral application for it.
The bail amount was set at N500,000
According to Deji Adeyanju, the counsel representing Abuwatseya, Ikwechegh was scheduled to be arraigned before the court at noon on the same day.
The incident came to public attention after a video clip circulated on social media, showing Ikwechegh threatening the Bolt driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, outside his Abuja residence.
He had also attracted public ire by threatening to make him “disappear without a trace.”
The embattled rep tendered an apology over his despicable conduct following the public that followed the assault on the bolt driver.
This came after his political party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance threatened to impose disciplinary action against him.
