The Federal High Court in Abuja has rescheduled its ruling in the case filed by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio and others, over her suspension from the Senate.
The judgment, originally slated for this week, will now be delivered on July 4, 2025.
Presiding Judge, Justice Binta Nyako, fixed the new date following the adoption of written arguments and final submissions by all parties during a hearing on May 13.
Akpoti-Uduaghan, through her counsel, Michael Numa, SAN, is challenging what she describes as an illegal and politically motivated suspension.
The case also includes contempt proceedings filed by both parties, which the court is set to address.
Justice Nyako explained the order in which the court will handle the issues:
“I believe all submissions are now before the court. I will first address the contempt issues. Then I will rule on the jurisdictional objections. If those succeed, the matter ends there. If not, I will proceed to examine the main suit filed by the applicant.”
The defendants had filed preliminary objections, questioning the court’s jurisdiction to entertain the suit. The court’s decisions on these objections will determine whether the substantive matter proceeds.
