A Kano State High Court sitting in Kano and presided over by Justice Nasiru Saminu, on Friday, sentenced two persons identified as Buhari Abdullahi and Umar Mukhtar Usman sentenced to six months imprisonment for impersonating operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
The duo were arraigned on a one-count charge of falsely presenting themselves as EFCC investigators.
They were accused of using forged EFCC identity cards in a bid to deceive unsuspecting individuals, in violation of Section 132 of the Penal Code Law.
The charge reads: “That you, Buhari Abdullahi and Umar Mukhtar Usman, sometime in May 2025 at Kano within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, falsely impersonated investigators of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, used a false identity card, and paraded yourselves as staff of EFCC, thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 132 of the Penal Code Law.”
Both defendants pleaded guilty to the charge.
Following their plea, the prosecution counsel, Idris I. Haruna, presented the facts of the case and urged the court to convict them accordingly.
Justice Saminu apparently ruled that each of the defendants should go to jail for six months with an option of a N50,000 fine.
The convicts were earlier arrested by EFCC operatives before being charged and convicted.
