The Cross River State House of Assembly has expressed grief over the death of the state Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Prince Eka Williams.
Williams died on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at a hospital in Abuja.
In a statement issued on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Matthew Okache, the Speaker of the House, Elvert Ayambem, described the commissioner’s death as a major loss to Cross River State.
Ayambem said Williams was a committed politician and public servant who made significant contributions to the administration and political development of the state.
The Speaker also commended Williams for his work as a member of the State Executive Council and his contribution to national discussions on the power sector through his leadership of the Forum of Commissioners for Power and Energy in Nigeria.
The statement read, “The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, on behalf of the 10th Cross River State House of Assembly, has expressed deep sadness over the death of the Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Prince Eka Williams, describing his passing as a painful loss to Cross River State.”
Ayambem extended his condolences to Governor Bassey Otu, members of the State Executive Council, the All Progressives Congress, residents of Ikom and Akparabong communities, as well as Williams’ family, friends and associates.
He said the late commissioner devoted himself to the development of Cross River and would be remembered for his public service.
“Prince Eka Williams believed in service and gave himself to the advancement of Cross River. His death is a painful loss to the state, and his contributions to public service will not be forgotten”, the speaker added.
Ayambem prayed for strength and comfort for the deceased’s family and asked God to grant Williams eternal rest.
