Death TOLL  HitS 11 IN BENUE HERDERS ATTACK

••• Deputy Governor Visits Community.

From Attah Ede, Makurdi

The death toll from the Tuesday night attack on Otobi community in Akpa district of  Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, has risen to 11.

The attack on Otobi is the latest in a disturbing string of bloody assaults along the Otukpo- Igumale Road, Okpamaju to Asa One and Asa Two down to the Ebonyi State border.

Our correspondent gathered that youths from the community on Wednesday morning recovered more corpses bringing the total number of deaths to 11.

The attack has sent shockwaves through the state, particularly because the Otobi community where the Federal Ministry of Water Resources Multipurpose Dam was located has now come under assault twice this April.

Just few days ago, a security man guarding the dam was killed at the dam site.

The member representing Otukpo/Akpa Constituency in the Benue State House of Assembly, Kennedy Angbo, told our correspondent that nine corpses were recovered Tuesday night, followed by one in a hard-to-reach area later that evening, while additional two were found this morning.

Meanwhile Benue State deputy governor, Dr. Sam Odeh on Wednesday visited the community attacked by the herders.

Odeh on behalf of Governor Hyacinth Alia condoled with the affected families and reassured residents of the state government’s commitment to addressing the spate of violent attacks across rural areas in the state.

He  also made some cash donations to provide immediate relief while the state emergency management agency has been directed to move in for needs assessment and provide emergency response to those in need.
