Bayo Ojulari resumed duties on Monday as Executive Vice President at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd), two days after reports surfaced that he was forced to sign a resignation letter under duress.
Sources at NNPC Towers in Abuja confirmed that Ojulari arrived at the office shortly before 10:00 a.m., and an internal memo was circulated to staff to dismiss rumours of his removal.
“He’s back in the office,” an official said.
The source adding that the crisis over his position may not be entirely over, no official clarification has been made about his purported resignation.
Ojulari’s reinstatement follows a tense weekend during which senior security officials reportedly detained him on Friday night.
The presidency has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
Ojulari was appointed to his current position in April 2025, following an intense contest among political heavyweights for leadership roles within the state oil firm. He succeeded Mele Kyari in a shake-up that was seen as part of a broader reform agenda within the national oil sector.
