The Minister of State for Health, Dr Tunji Alausa, Thursday, urged members of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) to end their seven-day warning strike.
The Minister made the call during a visit to Kaduna state`s National Eye Centre.
The network recalls that the association’s members commenced a seven-day warning strike to demand the release of Dr Ganiyat Popoola, a Kaduna-based doctor, abducted in December 2023.
Popoola, a centre employee, was abducted in December 2023 and has already spent about nine months in the kidnappers’ den.
According to Alausa, discussions are currently underway to secure her release from the kidnappers.
He said, “We are on top of the matter and have been on talking terms with the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, regarding the issue.
“I have spoken with the Commissioner of Police and everyone is working hard to see that she is released.”
The minister stated that he spoke with NARD’s leadership on Monday to encourage them to put off the strike since it would exacerbate the situation.
Alausa stated that the kidnappers were constantly altering their demands, but security services were working diligently to ensure her safe release.
