A fire outbreak at Purple Crown Hotel on Balogun Street, off Awolowo Road in Ikeja, Lagos, was successfully contained on Saturday with no casualties recorded, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency has said.
According to LASEMA, the incident was reported at about 9:52 a.m. and affected a room on the first floor of the hotel.
The agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said emergency responders arrived at the scene within 10 minutes of receiving the distress call.
“Upon arrival, responders discovered that a room on the first floor of the hotel had been severely affected by fire,” he said.
Oke-Osanyintolu explained that preliminary findings suggested the fire may have been caused by an electrical fault within the affected room.
He noted that the blaze caused substantial fire and smoke damage to part of the building but did not result in any loss of life or injuries.
“There was no loss of life and no injury recorded. All hotel guests and staff were safely evacuated from the building to the designated muster point,” the statement said.
LASEMA said a roll call was conducted by emergency responders and police officers to ensure that all occupants had been safely accounted for.
The fire was eventually extinguished through a joint operation involving LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Nigeria Police Force.
Following the incident, authorities restricted access to the building and cordoned off the affected section pending structural and electrical integrity assessments by relevant agencies.
“The situation is now fully under control. The fire has been extinguished and the immediate danger neutralised. Normal operations will only resume upon clearance from safety officials,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.
He urged hotel operators and business owners to prioritise regular electrical maintenance, maintain functional fire safety equipment and ensure staff are adequately trained on emergency evacuation procedures.
