A former President of the Ijaw Youth Council, Chief Chris Ekiyor, has commended the Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District, Senator Joel Thomas Onowakpo for his steadfastness and commitment to the welfare and development of the people of the senatorial district in the State.
Ekiyor also commended the recent appointment of Senator Onowakpo as the new Chairman, Senate Committee on Local Content describing it as strategic to the desired development of the oil rich region.
Chief Ekiyor who spoke during a courtesy visit on the Senator, promised to foster increased local participation in economic activities and to drive policy reforms that can bolster indigenous businesses.
He noted that the Senator’s purposeful representation of Delta South Senatorial district remain significant in the lives of the people of Niger Delta region as evident in the ongoing pursuit of growth and development in their area.
According to him, the aim of the visit was to afford him the opportunity to exchange views with the Senator towards harnessing local resources and empowering indigenous initiatives for sustainable progress.
Chief Ekiyor urged the Senator to take advantage of his vast experience and visionary leadership to ensure impactful success in the new assignment.
In his remark, Senator Joel Thomas thanked the former IYC leader for coming to identify him.
He acknowledged the contribution of Chief Ekiyor, stressing his initiatives have not only uplifted the community but have also set a benchmark for good governance and public service in the region.
He emphasized the need for both leaders to work collaboratively to unlock the full potential of Delta South, ensuring that the district continues to thrive through inclusive and locally-driven development strategies.
