A former Chairman of Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) Justice Emmanuel Olayinka Ayoola, is dead.
Famous Nigerian Lawyer, Richard Akinnola announced the death of the former Justice of the Supreme Court on his Facebook page on Wednesday night.
“Erudite Hon. Justice Emmanuel Olayinka Ayoola, a former Justice of the Supreme Court and a former Chairman of ICPC passes on at 90. A great man!” He posted
Media reports quoted close family sourcesto the retired judge as having said that he passed on in the evening of Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at exactly 6.33 pm at the age of over 90 years.
It was stated said that late Justice Ayoola died without any ailment with his last son, Luke by his bedside.

Justice Ayoola, who holds the title of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON), took over from the anti-corruption commission from Justice Mustapha Akanbi, from 2005 to 2010.
The late justice was a retired Justice of the Supreme Court and his tenure at the ICPC was characterized by a good combination of enforcement and prevention interventions.
In 2007, two years into his tenure at the ICPC, he piloted a major enforcement initiative at the Commission, which he called ‘Operation Hawk.’
Ayoola, until his appointment as ICPC chair was the National Human Rights Commission Chairman.
He retired from the nation’s Apex Court, Supreme Court, on 27th October 2003, having attained the mandatory retirement age of 70.
