Former Director of Army Public Relations and retired military officer, Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman (rtd), has added another feather to his cap following the award of a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Defence and Security Studies by the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna.
The academic achievement by the cerebral General has attracted commendations from colleagues, associates, and admirers who described the retired general as a shining example of lifelong learning, leadership, and service to the nation.
Usman, a respected strategic communication expert, successfully completed his doctoral studies at the School of Postgraduate Studies of the Nigerian Defence Academy, one of Nigeria’s foremost institutions for military and security education.
Widely regarded for his contributions to military communications and national security discourse, the retired general has continued to play an active role in public affairs, strategic communication, and policy engagement since leaving active service.
Congratulating him on the achievement, associates described him as a detribalised Nigerian, bridge-builder, and consummate professional whose commitment to excellence continues to inspire younger generations.
They noted that his attainment of a doctoral degree further underscores the importance of continuous education and intellectual development, particularly among military officers and public servants.
The doctorate in Defence and Security Studies is expected to deepen Usman’s contributions to research, policy formulation, and strategic thinking in areas relating to national security, defence management, conflict resolution, and public communication.
A Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and a member of the National Institute (mni), Usman has remained a prominent voice on security, leadership, and national development issues.
Observers said the latest academic milestone reflects the growing trend among retired military officers who continue to pursue higher education and contribute to scholarship, governance, and nation-building after active service.
With the attainment of the PhD, Brigadier General Usman joins the ranks of distinguished military scholars whose practical field experience is complemented by advanced academic expertise in defence and security studies.
