Former PDP Guber Candidate, Jandor Dumps PDP, Considers New Political Alliance

By Joy Yesufu

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 General election, Dr. Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has officially announced his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), signaling another major realignment in Lagos State’s political landscape.

Jandor made the announcement on Monday, March 3, 2025, during a media briefing at his Ikeja office in Lagos.

Speaking on his next move, Jandor did not immediately disclose his new political affiliation but hinted at ongoing consultations.

“We will consult widely with everybody and then take the decision to collapse our structure to another platform. What is majorly on the ground now is that we have left the Peoples Democratic Party,” he stated.

While his reasons for leaving the PDP remain unclear, his departure further underscores the shifting political dynamics in Lagos State ahead of future elections.

Jandor’s political career has been characterized by strategic realignments.

Originally a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), he founded the Lagos4Lagos Movement, a faction that pushed for internal democracy within the ruling party.

In January 2022, he defected to the PDP, where he secured the party’s governorship ticket for the 2023 election where he finished third in the race, trailing behind Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu (APC) and Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (Labour Party).

With another election cycle approaching, political observers are keen to see whether Jandor will return to the APC, or align with the Labour Party, or forge a path with an entirely different platform.

His exit from the PDP raises questions about the party’s strength in Lagos State, especially as opposition forces strategize for future electoral battles.
