Former PDP National Chairman, Bamanga Tukur, Laid To Rest In Yola

The body of former PDP National Chairman and Governor of defunct Gongola State, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, was on Sunday, laid to rest in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.

The body of the elder statesman was buried at his family residence in Yola South.

 Prominent individuals from far and near gathered at the palace of Lamido Fombina Muhammad Barkindo Aliyu Mustapha to observe the funeral prayer.

The prayer was led by the chief Imam of Modibbo Adama Mosque Yola, Jadi Umar Bobbi and  attended by family members, friends and close associates, including billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri and other government representatives.

Bamanga Tukur who died last Saturday was a business man, politician and public servant who served the country in various capacities.

His death was announced by the family in a statement signed by his son, Awwal Tukur.

The demise of the former  managing director of Nigeria Port Authority(NPA) occurred two days  before his 91st birthday, September 15.

Tukur served as governor of the defunct Gongola State and later became National Chairman of the PDP.

He is survived by two wives and 18 children, including Awwal, the Secretary to the Government of Adamawa State.

The family expressed appreciation to Nigerians and others who have commiserated with it over the death of the elder statesman.

Political leaders, government officials and other stakeholders across the country have continued to pour in tributes to the late political icon.
