Four persons have lost their lives while 10 others sustained injuries following a road crash along the Ilesa-Akure Expressway in Osun State.
The accident, which occurred on Thursday night at Omi Asoro Junction in Ilesa, involved a Toyota Hiace commercial bus and a Suzuki mini-bus operating within the metropolis.
Although the exact cause of the crash was still unclear as of Friday, eyewitnesses said the Toyota bus, reportedly loaded with phone accessories and electronic appliances, was heading towards the Akure axis when it collided with the mini-bus around 9 p.m.
A trader near the scene, identified simply as Tobi, said the commercial bus was travelling towards Akure before the collision occurred at the busy junction.
Confirming the incident, the Osun Sector Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Agnes Ogungbemi, disclosed that three victims died instantly at the scene, while another passenger later died on Friday.
“Four people died while 10 others sustained injuries. Three of the victims, two male adults and a female child, died instantly. Another passenger died this morning. The remains of the deceased have been taken to Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa.
“Those injured include 7 adults and 3 children. The accident involved a Toyota Hiace commercial vehicle and a Suzuki commercial mini-bus. The driver of the mini-bus had no driver’s licence,” Ogungbemi said.
The injured victims were reportedly taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
The latest accident came barely a day after another fatal road crash along the Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway in Ogun State claimed five lives and left 10 others injured when a vehicle went up in flames near Iyana Egbado.
