A 67 years-old French tourist identified as Mr Pietier Gilles, has reportedly died at a hotel room in Gboko, Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State.
The Network learnt that the foreigner checked into the Hotel Jovina, Gboko, on Saturday 6th June and was found dead on Sunday evening.
It was further learnt that the hotel manager , Mr Emmanuel Laha had at about 5:45pm on Sunday, gone to the “A” Division Police Station to report the incidence .
At the station, Laha told the police that the tourist fell ill on June 7 but was adamant not to seek for medical attention and could not visit any hospital.
However, in view of his identity and considering his deteriorating condition, the hotel management brought in a medical doctor to examine him, only to confirm him dead.
A police officer who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak, said upon receipt of the information, the Divisional Police Officer led a patrol team to the hotel where photographs of the scene were taken.
” The body was evacuated to the General Hospital in Gboko for preservation and autopsy.”
“We have launched an investigation into the matter and all relevant diplomatic channels are being engaged to handle the situation appropriately”, he said.
Meanwhile effort to get the Benue State command police public relations officer PPRO,DSP, Udeme Edet to get confirmation, proved abortive as her GSM number was switched off as at the time of filing this report.
