A Federal Government delegation on Wednesday, initiated a meeting with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), over the recent fuel price hike following the ongoing economic hardship in the land.
The Network learnt that the meeting was held at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, in Abuja, Wednesday evening.
It was further gathered that the Federal Government delegation was led by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, while the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero; Trade Union Congress (TUC) Secretary General, Nuhu Toro; led the Organised Labour team.
According to a source the meeting was also attended by the Minister of State for Labour, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha; Minister of Finance, Wale Edun; and Minister of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu.
The source said there was no formal public statement regarding the meeting after it ended.
” Iam not in the position to speak to press about what transpired during the meeting, but I can tell you that the organised labour expressed deepest concerns over the recent increase in the pump price of petrol, electricity tariff, galloping inflation, and the high cost of living in the country”
“The meeting may likely hold tomorrow again, after which details of the discussion shall be unveiled.
