Gunmen have abducted a woman reported to be the sister of former Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and her twin children in Ibadan, the state capital.
The victims were reportedly kidnapped on Wednesday morning in the Challenge area of Ibadan South-West Local Government Area.
Confirming the incident, one of Adelabu’s media aides, Femi Awogboro said the victims were attacked and whisked away by unidentified gunmen while travelling from the Elewura area to connect to the expressway
According to him, the family members were leaving their residence when the assailants struck and forcibly took them away to an unknown destination.
The incident has heightened concerns over rising insecurity in Oyo State, coming amid a series of abduction cases recorded in recent months.
In May 2026, more than 40 teachers and students were reportedly abducted during an attack on Ahoro-Esiele community in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
Similarly, an APC chieftain, Wale Oriade, was kidnapped in Ibadan in December 2025. He was reportedly abducted at his office located within the PJ Square Shopping Complex near the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) station at Elewura, along Akala Expressway, New Garage, Ibadan.
Eyewitnesses had said Oriade’s attackers arrived in a blue Nissan Micra vehicle before forcefully taking him away.
