The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Sunday, confirmed the killing of three police personnel in Benue
The IGP also confirmed the missing of seven other officers after suspected armed herders and local militias attacked police tactical teams in Benue State.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Mr Benjamin Hundeyin, a Chief Superintendent of Police, who disclosed this in statement on Sunday, said the suspected armed herdsmen and the local militia launched a deadly attack on Police Tactical Teams at Agu Centre, Katsina-Ala/Ukum Local Government Area of the State.
He said the attack which occurred on Friday, September 19, 2025, resulted in the death of three police officers, with seven others missing.
Egbetokun strongly condemned the attack, describing it as cruel, unwarranted, and an affront on the good people of Benue State.
The IGP urged members of the public to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of security agencies, as the Force continues to intensify efforts towards rescuing missing personnel, apprehending fleeing suspects, and dismantling the criminal networks behind the reprehensible attacks.
He said that already, six (6) suspects have been arrested in an ongoing response operation in the State following the deadly attack on Police Tactical Teams.
According to the statement, the arrested suspects are in police custody and assisting with useful information.
It was further stated that the IGP has directed the deployment of additional tactical assets to the area and assured that no stone would be left unturned in restoring peace and security in Benue State
The Force PRO said that the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari, is currently leading the operation to rescue the missing officers and arrest the fleeing suspects.
