The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned Nigerians against a fraudulent online publication claiming to be a special announcement by the commission concerning governorship candidates in six states.
In a public notice, the commission identified the affected states as Zamfara, Gombe, Delta, Plateau, Yobe and Kano.
The commission described the circulating publication as fake, confirming that it did not originate from INEC.
The electoral umpire reiterated its commitment to providing accurate electoral information and urged Nigerians to rely on its verified communication channels for official announcements and updates.
It therefore urged members of the public to disregard the publication and refrain from sharing it, warning against the spread of unverified information capable of misleading voters and creating confusion ahead of electoral activities.
INEC further dismissed claims that it had issued a special announcement concerning governorship candidates in the six states, insisting that the information was false.
“Nigerians should strive to obtain electoral information exclusively from our official communication channels, including our website, social media accounts and news portal.
“We call on citizens to remain vigilant and verify election-related information before sharing it, particularly as misleading publications can spread rapidly across social media platforms,” it said.
