The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reviewed its policy to allow candidates who have genuinely lost access to their registered telephone numbers or email addresses to update the details through a controlled process.
The board announced the policy change on Monday through its official X account, stating that the service commenced on September 21, 2026.
According to JAMB, the service is available only at designated Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres, including JAMB State Offices where applicable.
The board said the measure was introduced to assist candidates who have legitimate cases involving the loss of access to their registered GSM numbers or email addresses.
It, however, stressed that candidates seeking to use the service would be subjected to strict identity and biometric verification before any change could be effected.
JAMB said the service could be accessed only once, warning candidates against attempting to circumvent the verification requirements.
“Please note: The service can be accessed only once and is subject to strict identity and biometric verification,” the board said.
The examination body also advised candidates to visit only designated JAMB centres for the service and avoid unauthorised individuals or channels claiming to offer assistance with updating their registered details.
“For your security, use only designated JAMB centres and avoid unauthorised persons or channels,” it warned.
JAMB said the initiative formed part of its JCARE and JAMB Updates programmes aimed at improving access to its services while safeguarding candidates’ personal information.
Under the reviewed policy, eligible candidates may request an update of their registered GSM number, email address or both, provided they meet the board’s verification requirements.
The board, however, reiterated that the opportunity is a one-time service and that all requests would remain subject to identity and biometric checks.
The development is expected to provide relief to candidates who have been unable to access their JAMB-related services because they no longer have access to the telephone numbers or email addresses originally registered with the board.
